Sportfishing Trip of a Lifetime
If you are looking for the sportfishing trip of a lifetime THIS is it! I’ve been blessed enough to fish with Danny religiously for the past few years and I will have to say there is nothing better than the waters in Costa Rica and his crew. The hospitality cannot be beat with these guys!
This trip the targeted sport fish were Sailfish and Roosterfish. We were greeted on the vessel with handshakes and smiles; as we left the harbor traveling south in search of Sail fish we had no idea what was in store. What I thought was just going to be a good sportfishing trip turned into the best time of my life and consequently had me marking lines off my bucket list.
Day one: The first hook up was a monster Sailfish! Fueled by an adrenaline high we were able to fight the fish to the boat in about 45 minutes. We then decided that we would go after some grouper in hopes of feasting on our catch that evening with the crew. Every time the line hit the bottom we were cranking in 3-4 fish at a time! Unbelievable! Nothing like it in the world!
Day two: The evening before, while enjoying our catch of the day, I mentioned wanting to catch a monster Rooster Fish for that had been something I only dreamed about as a kid. Danny turned that dream into a Reality. Not once… but 5 times!
We left the harbor the next morning navigating about 30 miles north along the coastline. Once we got to the islands we began trolling for bait which didn’t take long at all. We quickly rigged one down line and one surface line in hopes of enticing the aggressive Roosterfish to the line.
BOOM, like something you only see on tv, I was in for the fight of my life! The crew scrambled to get the lines in while I began to fight the fish one on one. The adrenaline rush left me shaking and crawling with goosebumps from head to toe. The harder I fought the harder he fought! After a long fight, 30-45 minutes or so, we managed to get the fish to the boat.
When he surfaced I laid eyes on fish of a lifetime. A MONSTER rooster fish! Now to put this in perspective; I’m 6’ tall and 200lbs…this fish made me look like I was a child. We hoisted him from the water and got our photos and went on to repeat this 4 more times AFTER we managed to put 8 Dorado in the boat!
